What's one to do in this summer heat in the winter? Head to the artisan ice cream shop, naturally (sorry east coasters).
I'm a salted caramel fiend so was beyond stoked when I walked into Carmela Ice Cream in my 'hood near the Grove. It is the cutest little ice cream shop hailing from Pasadena. Among its signature flavors: salted caramel, brown sugar vanilla bean and lavender honey. I loved the space but I liked the flavor even more.
It doesn't hurt that the ice cream is served on these crunchy waffle cones that look and taste artisan too. My companions had the rosemary olive oil pine nut and cucumber sorbet, which were interesting and savory tasting, respectively. I was enjoying my salted caramel too much. I'll definitely be back to taste other flavors or re-indulge in my salted caramel addiction.
